*‘కోర్ట్’ లాంటి హిట్ తరువాత మళ్లీ ‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’తో రాబోతోన్నారు?
ఈ చిత్రం ఎలా ఉండబోతోంది?*

‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’ కథ లాస్ట్ ఇయర్ విన్నాను. ఈ చిత్రం గత ఏడాది చివర్లో రావాల్సింది. కానీ కాస్త ఆలస్యంగా ఇప్పుడు ఏప్రిల్ 25న వస్తున్నాం. కోర్ట్ లాంటి హిట్ తరువాత మళ్లీ వెంటనే ‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’ అని వస్తుండటం ఆనందంగా ఉంది. నాకు కాన్ఫిడెన్స్ ఉంది. ఎలాంటి ఒత్తిడి లేదు.

*‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’లో మాదిరిగా మీరు నిజ జీవితంలో జాతకాలు నమ్ముతారా?*

‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’ చిత్రంలో చూపించినట్టుగా కాదు కానీ.. నేను కొంత నమ్ముతాను. ఇండస్ట్రీలో ఏదీ మన కంట్రోల్‌లో ఉండదు. మంచి సినిమాను చేయాలని ప్రయత్నిస్తాం. ఫలితం మన చేతుల్లో ఉండదు. ఈ మూవీని ఎప్పుడో రిలీజ్ చేద్దామని అనుకున్నాం. కానీ బిజినెస్ పరంగా, థియేటర్ల పరంగా అన్నీ లెక్కేసుకుని ఇప్పుడు ఏప్రిల్ 25న వస్తున్నాం.

*‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’లో మీరు ఏం చెప్పబోతోన్నారు?*

జాతకాలు నమ్మాలి అని కానీ నమ్మకూడదు అని కానీ మేం చెప్పం. కానీ ఒకరి నమ్మకాల్ని ఇంకొకరి మీద రుద్దితే ఎలాంటి పరిణామాలు ఎదురవుతాయో చూపిస్తాం. ఏ సైడ్ తీసుకుని మాత్రం కథను చెప్పలేదు.

*మీరు ఎక్కువగా ఎమోషనల్ స్టోరీలను ఎంచుకుంటున్నారు. అవే ఎక్కువగా విజయాన్ని సాధిస్తుండటం గురించి చెప్పండి?*

కామన్ మేన్ పాత్రల్ని పోషిస్తే ఎక్కువ మందికి రీచ్ అవుతుందని నా నమ్మకం. ‘మల్లేశం‘ అయినా, ‘సారంగపాణి‘ అయినా మన చుట్టు పక్కనే చూస్తాం. వారి జర్నీ చాలా పెయిన్ ఫుల్‌గా ఉంటుంది. ‘మల్లేశం, బలగం, కోర్ట్, సారంగపాణి‘ ఇలా అన్నీ కూడా మన చుట్టూనే చూస్తుంటాం. ఇందులో జాతకాల్ని నమ్మే ఓ కుర్రాడి పాత్రను పోషించాను.

*ప్రారంభంలో కామెడీ రోల్స్ చేసిన మీరు ఇప్పుడు ఫుల్ లెంగ్త్ కామెడీ ఎంటర్టైనర్‌లు చేస్తుండటం గురించి చెప్పండి?*

ప్రస్తుతం నవ్వించడం అనేది చాలా కష్టమైన పని. ఇంద్రగంటి కామెడీ టైమింగ్ చాలా బాగుంటుంది. ఇలాంటి ఓ పాత్రను ఇంత వరకు నేను చేయలేదనిపిస్తోంది. ఇది చాలా కొత్తగా ఉండబోతోంది. ఈ చిత్రం, అందులోని నా పాత్ర అందరికీ నచ్చుతుందని భావిస్తున్నాను.

*‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’ చిత్రంలో మీ పాత్ర, యాస ఎలా ఉండబోతోంది?*

ఇంత వరకు నేను ఎక్కువగా తెలంగాణ మాండలికంలోనే ఎక్కువగా మాట్లాడాను. కానీ ఈ సారి మాత్రం ఆంధ్ర యాసలో మాట్లాడతాను. ఇంద్రగంటి గారి స్టైల్‌లోనే మాట్లాడేందుకు ప్రయత్నించాను. ఆయన నా కోసం ఇందులో సపరేట్ ట్రాక్, టైమింగ్‌ను సెట్ చేశారు. అది అందరికీ నచ్చుతుందని భావిస్తున్నా.

*తణికెళ్ల భరణి, నరేష్, అవసరాల శ్రీనివాస్ వంటి వారితో పని చేసిన అనుభవం గురించి చెప్పండి?*

తణికెళ్ల భరణి గారు, నరేష్ గారు, అవసరాల శ్రీనివాస్ గారు అద్బుతమైన నటులు. వాళ్లంతా లెజెండ్స్. వెన్నెల కిషోర్ అద్భుతమైన ఆర్టిస్ట్. వైవా హర్షకు మంచి టైమింగ్ ఉంది. అందరూ సీనియర్లే అయినా మాతో కలిసి పోయి సరదాగా షూటింగ్ చేశారు.

*‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’ హీరోగా ఏమైనా ఒత్తిడి ఫీల్ అయ్యారా?*

‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’ చిత్రం కోసం ఇంద్రగంటి గారే ఎక్కువగా కష్టపడ్డారు. ఈ చిత్రం నా కంటే ఆయనే ఎక్కువగా కష్టపడ్డారు. సెట్స్ మీదకు వచ్చి ఆయన చెప్పింది చెప్పినట్టుగా చేసుకుంటూ పోయానంతే. నేను ఎప్పుడూ ఒత్తిడిగా ఫీల్ అవ్వలేదు.

*ఇండస్ట్రీలోకి రాకముందు మీరు జాతకం చూపించుకున్నారా?*

ఇండస్ట్రీలోకి రాకముందు జాతకాలు చూపిస్తే అస్సలు నేను యాక్టర్‌ని అవ్వను అని చెప్పారు. కానీ నేను అవన్నీ పట్టించుకోలేదు. మా అమ్మ తన కొడుకు ఏమైపోతాడో అని అలా జాతకం చూపించారు. కానీ నేను నా మీద నమ్మకంతో వచ్చాను. చేసే పని మీద నేను నమ్మకం పెట్టుకుంటున్నానంతే.

*‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’ స్టోరీతో ముందుకు వెళ్లే సినిమానా? కారెక్టరైజేషన్‌తో ముందుకు వెళ్లే సినిమానా?*

కొన్ని సినిమాలు కారెక్టర్ల మీదే నడుస్తాయి. ‘కోర్ట్‘ చిత్రంలో నాతో పాటు అన్ని కారెక్టర్‌లు హైలెట్ అయ్యాయి. ఫైనల్‌గా సినిమాకు మంచి టాక్ వచ్చింది.. బ్లాక్ బస్టర్ అయింది. నేనున్నాను అని సినిమాకు జనాలు రావడం లేదు. నేను ఓ సినిమాను చేస్తున్నాను అంటే.. అందులో ఏదో ఒక మంచి పాయింట్, కంటెంట్ ఉంటుందని నమ్ముతున్నారు. ప్రస్తుతం ఆడియెన్స్ ఏ సినిమాని చూడాలి? ఏ సినిమాను చూడకూడదు అన్న ఫుల్ క్లారిటీతో ఉన్నారు. సినిమాలో విషయం ఉంటేనే జనాలు చూస్తున్నారు.

*ఫ్లాప్స్ వచ్చినప్పుడు స్వీయ విమర్శ చేసుకుంటారా?*

సినిమా పోయినప్పుడు కచ్చితంగా నా తప్పుల్ని నేను సరిదిద్దుకుంటాను. ఎక్కడెక్కడ తప్పు చేశాం.. సినిమా ఎందుకు పోయింది.. ఇలా కాకుండా అలా చేసి ఉండాలి.. నెక్ట్స్ టైం జాగ్రత్తగా ఉండాలి అని నాకు నేనుగా విమర్శించుకుంటాను.

*మాస్ ఇమేజ్ కోసం పరితపిస్తుంటారా?*

మన ఇండస్ట్రీలో యాక్షన్ హీరోలున్నారు. మాస్ కమర్షియల్ ఎంటర్టైనర్ చిత్రాలకు మంచి కలెక్షన్స్ కూడా వస్తుంటాయి. కానీ నాని గారు ‘దసరా‘ చేశారు. ఆ వెంటనే ‘హాయ్ నాన్న‘ అని కూడా చేశారు. అవి రెండు హిట్లే అయ్యాయి. ఒకప్పుడు చిరంజీవి గారు, రజినీకాంత్ గారు, బాలకృష్ణ గారు అదే ఫార్మాట్‌ను అనుసరించారు. అన్ని రకాల చిత్రాలను చేసి మెప్పించారు. నేను కూడా అలానే చేయాలని అనుకుంటున్నాను. శ్రీకాంత్ ఓదెల రెడీ అంటే కత్తి పట్టుకొంటా…(సరదాగా నవ్వుతూ)..

*ఇంద్రగంటి గారు మీకు ఈ కథను చెప్పినప్పుడు మీ నుంచి వచ్చిన రియాక్షన్ ఏంటి?*

ఇంద్రగంటి గారితో ఒక ఫోటో దిగితే చాలని అనుకునేవాడ్ని. కానీ అలాంటి ఆయనే కథను తీసుకొచ్చి చెప్పారు. కథ విన్నవెంటనే అద్భుతంగా అనిపించింది. జాతకాల పిచ్చోడు అంటూ కథ మొత్తాన్ని చెప్పారు. ‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం‘ అని టైటిల్ కూడా చెప్పారు. ఆ టైటిల్ కూడా నాకు చాలా నచ్చింది. టైటిల్ అద్భుతంగా ఉంది సర్ అని అన్నాను. ఇక ఆయనతో నా ఫస్ట్ డే షూటింగ్ అయితే ఎప్పటికీ గుర్తుండిపోతుంది. ప్రతీ ఒక్కరికీ ఇంద్రగంటి గారితో పని చేసే అదృష్టం రావాలని కోరుకుంటున్నాను.

*‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’ నిర్మాత శివలెంక కృష్ణ ప్రసాద్ గారితో మీ అనుభవం గురించి చెప్పండి?*

శివలెంక కృష్ణ ప్రసాద్ గారు చాలా గొప్ప నిర్మాత. అప్పట్లోనే ‘ఆదిత్య 369‘ లాంటి గొప్ప చిత్రాన్ని నిర్మించారు. ఇప్పటికీ నాలాంటి కొత్త యాక్టర్‌లని కూడా సర్ అని పిలుస్తుంటారు. ఆయన ఎంతో హంబుల్‌గా ఉంటారు. ఆయన బ్యానర్‌లో పని చేసే అవకాశం రావడం నా అదృష్టం.

*‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’ కోసం ప్రీమియర్లు వేస్తున్నారా?*

‘సారంగపాణి జాతకం’ ప్రమోషన్స్ కోసం వైజాగ్‌కి వెళ్తున్నాం. అక్కడ ఈవెంట్లు కూడా చేస్తున్నాం. ప్రీమియర్లు కూడా వేయబోతున్నాం. మా సినిమాను కాస్త ముందుగానే చూపిస్తాం. నచ్చితే థియేటర్‌కు రండి అని చెబుతాం. మా సినిమా అందరినీ నవ్విస్తూ ఎంటర్టైన్ చేసేలా ఉంటుంది.

*ప్రస్తుతం ఆడియెన్స్ టేస్ట్ మారిపోయిందని అంటున్నారు?*

ప్రస్తుతం జనాలు కంటెంట్ ఉన్న చిత్రాల్నే ఎంకరేజ్ చేస్తున్నారు. కామెన్ మెన్ కథల్నే జనాలు ఎక్కువగా ఇష్టపడుతున్నారు. లక్కీ భాస్కర్, పుష్ప వంటి చిత్రాల్లో కామన్ మెన్ హీరోగా మారుతాడు. అప్పట్లో చిరంజీవి గారు కూడా అదే ఫార్మాట్‌లో చాలా చిత్రాలు చేసి అందరినీ మెప్పించారు.

*నెక్ట్స్ ప్రాజెక్టుల గురించి చెప్పండి?*

ఏషియన్ సినిమాస్‌లో ‘ ప్రేమంటే‘ అనే సినిమాను కొత్త దర్శకుడితో చేస్తున్నాను. గీతా ఆర్ట్స్‌లో బన్నీ వాస్ గారి నిర్మాణంలో ‘మిత్రమండలి‘ అనే మరో ప్రాజెక్టుని చేస్తున్నాను. ఇంకా కొన్ని కథలు వింటున్నాను. బలమైన పాత్రలుండే సినిమాల్ని ఎక్కువగా చేయాలని అనుకుంటున్నాను.

“‘Sarangapani Jatakam’ is a common man’s story filled with emotions like ‘Mallesham’, ‘Balagam’, and ‘Court’” – Hero Priyadarshi

With a string of successes, Priyadarshi is riding high right now. His next film as the lead is ‘Sarangapani Jatakam’, produced under the prestigious Sridevi Movies banner by Sivalenka Krishna Prasad and directed by Mohana Krishna Indraganti. The film is set to release on April 25. On this occasion, Priyadarshi interacted with the media. Here’s what he shared about the film:

Q: After a hit like ‘Court’, you’re coming back with ‘Sarangapani Jatakam’. What can we expect from this film?
I heard the story of ‘Sarangapani Jatakam’ last year. It was supposed to release at the end of last year but got delayed a bit. Now it’s releasing on April 25. I’m really happy to come back with this film right after a hit like ‘Court’. I’m confident and not under any pressure.

Q: Do you personally believe in horoscopes like the character in this film?
Not to the extent shown in the movie, but I do believe in them to some extent. In this industry, nothing is really under our control. We just try to make good cinema, but the result is not in our hands. We had planned to release the film earlier, but considering business aspects and theatre availability, we decided on April 25.

Q: What message does the film try to convey?
We’re not saying one should believe or shouldn’t believe in horoscopes. But we are showing what happens when someone imposes their beliefs on others. We haven’t taken sides in the story.

Q: You seem to prefer emotional stories. Why is that?
I believe common man characters reach a wider audience. Be it ‘Mallesham’ or ‘Sarangapani’, these are people we see around us. Their journeys are often painful. Stories like ‘Mallesham’, ‘Balagam’, ‘Court’, and ‘Sarangapani’ are all rooted in our surroundings. In this film, I play a young man who strongly believes in horoscopes.

Q: You started with comedy roles. Now you’re doing full-length comedy entertainers. How do you see that transition?
Making people laugh is very difficult these days. Indraganti has great comic timing. I’ve never played a role like this before. It feels very fresh. I believe the character and the film will connect with everyone.

Q: What about your character and dialect in this film?
So far, I’ve mostly spoken in the Telangana dialect. But in this film, I speak in the Andhra dialect. I tried to follow Indraganti sir’s style. He created a separate track and timing for me, and I think audiences will like it.

Q: How was the experience working with legends like Tanikella Bharani, Naresh, and Avasarala Srinivas?
They are all amazing actors and true legends. Vennela Kishore is a fantastic artist. Viva Harsha has great timing. Despite being seniors, everyone was very friendly and we had fun during the shoot.

Q: Did you feel any pressure as the lead actor in this film?
It was Indraganti sir who worked the hardest for this film. More than me, it was his effort. I just followed his direction on set. I never felt any pressure.

Q: Did you check your horoscope before entering the film industry?
Yes, before I entered the industry, astrologers said I would never become an actor. But I didn’t care about any of that. My mother got my horoscope checked out of concern. I came into the industry with faith in myself and my work.

Q: Is this a story-driven or character-driven film?
Some films revolve around characters. In ‘Court’, not just me, all characters stood out. It got great word-of-mouth and became a blockbuster. People don’t come to the theatres just because I’m in a film—they come because they believe the film will have a strong point or content. Today’s audiences are very clear about what to watch and what to skip. Only meaningful films are working.

Q: Do you self-reflect when a film flops?
Absolutely. When a film fails, I always introspect. I look at where I went wrong, what could’ve been done differently, and make sure to be more careful next time.

Q: Do you long for a mass hero image?
There are many action heroes in our industry. Mass commercial entertainers pull great collections too. But look at Nani—he did ‘Dasara’ and then ‘Hi Nanna’, and both were hits. Earlier, even Chiranjeevi, Rajinikanth, and Balakrishna followed this format—doing all kinds of films and impressing everyone. I want to do the same. If Srikanth Odela is ready, I’ll pick up a sword! (laughs)

Q: What was your reaction when Indraganti sir narrated this story to you?
I used to dream of just taking a picture with Indraganti sir. But he came to me with a story! The moment I heard it, I felt it was amazing. He called it the story of a horoscope-crazy guy and told me the title ‘Sarangapani Jatakam’. I loved the title too. I told him, “Sir, it’s an amazing title.” I’ll never forget my first day shooting with him. I hope everyone gets a chance to work with Indraganti sir.

Q: How was your experience working with producer Sivalenka Krishna Prasad?
He’s a great producer. He produced classics like ‘Aditya 369’. Even now, he respectfully addresses newcomers like me as “sir.” He’s very humble. I consider myself lucky to have worked under his banner.

Q: Are there any premiere shows planned for the film?
We’re going to Vizag for ‘Sarangapani Jatakam’ promotions. We’re doing events there and will be organizing premiere shows too. We want to show the film a bit early—if people like it, they can come to the theatres. Our film will entertain everyone with laughter.

Q: Do you think the audience’s taste has changed now?
Yes, today’s audience prefers films with solid content. They love stories of the common man. In films like ‘Lucky Bhaskar’ and ‘Pushpa’, the hero is a common man who rises. Even Chiranjeevi sir did many such films in the past and won hearts.

Q: What are your upcoming projects?
I’m doing a film called ‘Premante’ with a new director under Asian Cinemas. I’m also doing another project titled ‘Mitramandali’ under Geetha Arts, produced by Bunny Vas. I’m listening to a few more scripts. I want to focus more on films with strong roles.
