“గ్యాంగ్స్ ఆఫ్ గోదావరి” కుటుంబ సమేతంగా చూడదగ్గ చిత్రం – కథానాయకుడు విశ్వక్ సేన్
మాస్ కా దాస్ విశ్వక్ సేన్ కథానాయకుడిగా నటించిన చిత్రం “గ్యాంగ్స్ ఆఫ్ గోదావరి”. శ్రీకర స్టూడియోస్ సమర్పణలో సితార ఎంటర్టైన్మెంట్స్, ఫార్చ్యూన్ ఫోర్ సినిమాస్ పతాకాలపై సూర్యదేవర నాగవంశీ, సాయి సౌజన్య నిర్మించారు. వెంకట్ ఉప్పుటూరి, గోపీచంద్ ఇన్నుమూరి సహ నిర్మాతలు. కృష్ణ చైతన్య దర్శకత్వం వహించిన ఈ సినిమాలో నేహా శెట్టి, అంజలి కథానాయికలుగా నటించారు. ప్రముఖ స్వరకర్త యువన్ శంకర్ రాజా సంగీతం అందించారు. ఇప్పటికే విడుదలైన పాటలకు, ప్రచార చిత్రాలకు విశేష స్పందన లభించింది. భారీ అంచనాలతో మే 31వ తేదీన “గ్యాంగ్స్ ఆఫ్ గోదావరి” చిత్రం ప్రేక్షకుల ముందుకు రానుంది. ఈ నేపథ్యంలో తాజాగా మీడియాతో ముచ్చటించిన కథానాయకుడు విశ్వక్ సేన్, నిర్మాత సూర్యదేవర నాగవంశీ సినిమాకి సంబంధించిన పలు ఆసక్తికర విషయాలను పంచుకోవడంతో కాదు, సినిమా పట్ల తమకున్న నమ్మకాన్ని వ్యక్తం చేశారు.
ట్రైలర్ లో కొన్ని ఇబ్బందికర సంభాషణలు ఉన్నాయి కదా?
విశ్వక్ సేన్: మా సినిమాలో కేవలం రెండు మూడు మాత్రమే అటువంటి సంభాషణలు ఉన్నాయి. అవి కూడా ట్రైలర్ కే పరిమితం. సినిమాలో మ్యూట్ చేయబడ్డాయి. అందుకే మా సినిమాకి సెన్సార్ వారు యూ/ఏ సర్టిఫికెట్ ఇచ్చారు. ట్రైలర్ లో కూడా ఆ సంభాషణలు ఎందుకు పెట్టామంటే.. ఆ పాత్రలలోని భావోద్వేగాలను ప్రేక్షకులకు నిజాయితీగా పరిచయం చేయడం కోసమే. నిజానికి నేను ఈ సినిమా చేస్తున్న సమయంలో.. ఇది యువతకి మాత్రమే నచ్చేలా ఉంటుంది అనుకున్నాను. కానీ మొత్తం సినిమా పూర్తయ్యి ఫైనల్ కాపీ చూసిన తరువాత.. నాకు ఈ సినిమా విలువ తెలిసింది. ఎక్కడా ఇబ్బందికర సన్నివేశాల ఉండవు. చిన్న పిల్లలతో కలిసి చూడొచ్చు. ఒక్క మాటలో చెప్పాలంటే ఇది కుటుంబ ప్రేక్షకుల సినిమా.
నాగవంశీ: కొందరు ట్రైలర్ లోని కేవలం ఆ రెండు సంభాషణలను ఎందుకు పట్టించుకుంటున్నారో అర్థంకావడంలేదు. ఒక స్లమ్ కుర్రాడు ఎలా మాట్లాడతాడో దానిని నిజాయితీగా చూపించడం కోసం మాత్రమే అలాంటి డైలాగ్ లు పెట్టడం జరిగింది. సినిమాల పట్ల ఎంతో అవగాహన ఉన్న అన్నపూర్ణ సుప్రియ గారు ఫోన్ చేసి ట్రైలర్ బాగుంది అన్నారు. కథని, పాత్రలను ఫాలో అయితే.. అందులోని ఎమోషన్ మనకి అర్థమవుతుంది.
‘గ్యాంగ్స్ ఆఫ్ గోదావరి’ సినిమా ఎలా ఉండబోతుంది?
విశ్వక్ సేన్: కమర్షియల్ అంశాలు ఉంటూనే కొత్తగా ఉంటుంది. తెలుగులో ఇదొక కొత్త ఫార్ములాతో వస్తున్న సినిమా. ‘గ్యాంగ్స్ ఆఫ్ గోదావరి’ చూశాక ఒక మంచి సినిమా చేశానని సంతృప్తి కలిగింది. నా కెరీర్ లో గుర్తుండిపోయే సినిమా అవుతుంది.
నాగవంశీ: గోదావరి ప్రాంతానికి చెందిన లంకల రత్న అనే ఒక స్లమ్ కుర్రాడు.. రాజకీయాలను వాడుకొని ఎలా ఎదిగాడు అనేది ఈ సినిమా కథ. కమర్షియల్ అంశాలు ఉంటూనే.. ఎమోషనల్ గా కనెక్ట్ అయ్యేలా సినిమా ఉంటుంది. లంకల రత్న పాత్ర అందరికీ నచ్చుతుంది.
సినిమాలో గోదావరి యాసలో మాట్లాడారు కదా.. ఎటువంటి జాగ్రత్తలు తీసుకున్నారు?
విశ్వక్ సేన్: యాస విషయంలో నన్ను ఎవరూ వేలు పెట్టి చూపించకూడదు అని ముందే అనుకున్నాను. ఒకటికి పదిసార్లు జాగ్రత్తగా చూసుకొని సంభాషణలు చెప్పాను. యాస విషయంలో ఒక్క శాతం అనుమానం వచ్చినా.. దర్శకుడిని, దర్శక విభాగాన్ని అడిగి తెలుసుకునేవాడిని. నేను మిమ్మల్ని ఏమాత్రం నిరాశపరిచను. పాత్రకు పూర్తి న్యాయం చేశానని నమ్మకంగా ఉన్నాను. ఇప్పటిదాకా నేను చేసిన సినిమాలు ఒకెత్తయితే.. ఈ సినిమా ఒకెత్తు అనేలా ఉంటుంది.
‘గ్యాంగ్స్ ఆఫ్ గోదావరి’ కథ మీ దగ్గరకు ఎలా వచ్చింది?
నాగవంశీ: మొదట కృష్ణ చైతన్య ఈ కథని వేరే హీరోతో అనుకున్నారు. కానీ ఏవో కారణాల వల్ల ఆ సినిమా ఆగిపోయింది. అప్పుడు చైతన్య వచ్చి త్రివిక్రమ్ గారిని కలిశారు. అలా త్రివిక్రమ్ గారు ఈ కథ వినమని నాకు చెప్పారు. కథ వినగానే చాలా నచ్చింది. వెంటనే సినిమా చేయాలి అనుకున్నాము.
విశ్వక్ సేన్ నటన గురించి?
నాగవంశీ: ఇప్పటిదాకా చేసిన సినిమాల్లో విశ్వక్ సేన్ నటన ఒకెత్తయితే.. గ్యాంగ్స్ ఆఫ్ గోదావరి సినిమాలో నటన ఒకెత్తు. గత ఐదేళ్ళలో మీరు విశ్వక్ నటన చూసింది ట్రైలర్ మాత్రమే. ఈ సినిమాలో విశ్వక్ నటవిశ్వరూపం చూస్తారు. తన వయసుకి మించిన పాత్రలో అద్భుతంగా నటించాడు. సినిమా చూస్తున్నప్పుడు మీకు తెలియకుండానే లంకల రత్న పాత్రతో కలిసి ప్రయాణం చేస్తారు.
‘గ్యాంగ్స్ ఆఫ్ గోదావరి’కి సీక్వెల్ ఉంటుందా?
విశ్వక్ సేన్: ఈ సినిమాకి సీక్వెల్ ఉంటుంది. ఉంటే అందులోనూ నేనే నటిస్తాను.
యువ శంకర్ రాజా గారి ఎంపిక ఎవరిది? సంగీతం ఎలా ఉండబోతుంది?
నాగవంశీ: దర్శకుడు కృష్ణ చైతన్య ఎంపికనే. యువ శంకర్ రాజా స్వరపరిచిన పాటలు ఇప్పటికే విడుదలయ్యాయి. అందరి నుంచి మంచి స్పందన లభించింది. ఇక నేపథ్య సంగీతం అయితే అద్భుతంగా ఇచ్చారు. సినిమా చూసిన తరువాత మీరే ఈ విషయాన్ని చెబుతున్నారు.
జూనియర్ ఎన్టీఆర్ తో మీ నటనను పోలుస్తున్నారు.. దీనిపై మీ అభిప్రాయం ఏంటి?
విశ్వక్ సేన్: జూనియర్ ఎన్టీఆర్ గారు అంటే నాకెంతో ఇష్టం. ఆయన నాకు స్ఫూర్తి. కానీ నటుడిగా నా ప్రత్యేకతను చాటుకోవడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తుంటాను. ఎన్టీఆర్ గారు కూడా నన్ను విశ్వక్ సేన్ గానే ఎదిగితే చూడాలని అనుకుంటారు.

‘Mass Ka Das’ Vishwak Sen is joining hands with Neha Sshetty, Anjali for an intense gangster drama Gangs of Godavari, written and directed by Krishna Chaitanya. Presented by Srikara Studios and produced by S Naga Vamsi, Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments, Fortune Four Cinemas, the film, which has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, is releasing in theatres on May 31.
Ahead of the release, Vishwak Sen and producer S Naga Vamsi came together for a media interaction.

Vishwak Sen
- When I signed Gangs of Godavari I imagined it would be catering to the youth, though I didn’t discuss or think too much about it. As I watched the first copy this week, I realised that the film is meant for all age groups – it doesn’t have any vulgarity or cringe moments. A certain section of audiences may get distracted by a couple of dialogues in the trailer, but how one views a film is decided by their taste, upbringing and approach towards life.
- There’s a lot of talk about Telugu cinema going global lately. We too have a taste for films like The Godfather, Scarface and shows like Game of Thrones. It is because they are a product of honest, no-holds-barred filmmaking. Gangs of Godavari too has a fight before intermission without slow motion and background score that’ll blow everyone’s minds. It’s a risk but filmmaking is evolving with time and we must respect that.
- I was conscious about getting the Godavari slang right. I didn’t want anyone to point a finger at my performance and I think I did justice to the role and won’t disappoint you. I don’t want to be labelled as a Telangana actor. Gangs of Godavari will be a milestone moment in Telugu cinema. I’m saying this after a screening yesterday.
- I learnt a lot from Lankala Rathna, he comes across as an unpredictable character, but he is someone with his own set of morals. I related with that side. Gangs of Godavari will most likely have a sequel, but unlike Hit, I will be playing the lead role in it too.
S Naga Vamsi
- If people are finding a few moments in the trailer too direct, they need to understand the rags-to-riches story revolves around the highs and lows in the life of a slum dweller and the tone is decided by his trajectory. Supriya garu (of Annapurna Studios) called to tell me that she really liked the trailer. I presume she understood it too. We can make better films if we’re more open minded.
- Gangs of Godavari is Vishwak Sen’s finest performance to date. What you’ve seen from him in the last five years is a mere trailer. Audiences will be surprised that a young actor has pulled off such a challenging role. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s background score is a major highlight. Lankala Rathna is a character that’ll stay with you after a long time.
- The first half has many high moments, showcasing Rathna’s growth while post intermission focuses on the problems he faces. It has all the commercial highs that a regular viewer expects from a mass film. Apart from Vishwak, the performances of Anjali, Neha Shetty and Goparaju Ramana will be widely talked about.
- The film was to be made by a popular production house, but was shelved later and the director came to me for a narration. I liked it and felt it was a genre we haven’t explored much in the recent times. I called Vishwak, briefed him about the Andhra backdrop and he greenlit it immediately. Vishwak wanted it to be titled Lankala Rathna but I insisted on Gangs of Godavari, I felt the appeal of the story would widen with the title.
